Girl, Social media is killing you!

“It is 2019 honey, if you do not have Instagram, twitter or facebook, are you even a normal human? Are you living under a rock?”
-most millennials in 2019

We live in a society that values instant gratification. We want things and we want them instantly. We want things NOW! From our food to our likes on Instagram and Facebook. This also gives us a false sense of the road to success. (another post)

In a society of instant likes, where do you fit in? In a society where likes equal currency where do you fit in? In a society where women call themselves models after receiving a certain number of likes and follows where do you fit in? In a society where everyone wants to be loved and accepted by millions where do you fit in? In a society where the number of followers you have determine your worth where do you fit in?

The way we as humans were created, we will always have a certain need to fit in. Even the most confident people on earth have a need to fit in. This is why we seek friends and associates who have common likes and interests. We want to belong.

When we add the current beauty standards (Flat stomach, large breast, wide hips and a big stomach, and a big behind just to name a few) plus our our human need to belong plus a huge dose of social media especially Instagram where people are able to create a more grandiose idea of what their lives are like, we have a CATASTROPHE!! We have a disaster! We have low self-esteem!

Low self-esteem and social media go hand in hand. They are like two peas in a pod. Girl, be careful when you spend too much time on Instagram or facebook. Comparison is the thief of joy and I firmly believe in it.

I want you to know:

1. Your life has meaning and that you have a purpose.

2. Everything that shines does not equate gold. Some people sell or present a dream life that they are not living. Some people have the “perfect” body and they are not happy in their lives.

3. Know who you are. No one is quite like you and that is your superpower.

4. Know that it is okay to take a break from social and focus on things that you love to do such as running, dancing, reading and more

Enjoy your life to the fullest because you only have one.

You have a lot to offer on this earth, do not let social media steal your joy!

Muah, Much love Audrey Ade
